Our range of decorative switches & sockets
At Socket World, we constantly strive to bring you the best choice of switches and sockets, from only reliable and quality wiring accessory manufacturers. However, we also know that sometimes too much choice can be a little overwhelming. Here we walk you through ranges we sell, and the benefits and features of each.
When choosing your decorative switches and sockets you may first be drawn to the colour or ‘finish’ of socket and indeed this choice can vary significantly between ranges. If you have a particular finish in mind, we recommend firstly using our Shop by Finish tool, and then reviewing which ranges are available in your colour choice. Once you have decided on your colour, you are then in a position to select your style and this is where we can introduce our “ranges”.
In essence there are 3 main Styles offered: Slim Line, Flat plate and Traditional Decorative switches and sockets.
Focussing firstly on those wiring accessories offered by BG, we stock both their Nexus Metal Slim plate and Flat plate. Both of the plates have a hard wearing lacquered finish to protect against wear and tear.
The Nexus Metal plate is a great looking slimline plate, with a 5mm raised and curved profile, on a standard screwed base. The switches themselves have no surround or “insert” which is a great feature of this range whilst the sockets are available with white, grey and black inserts.
A real bonus to the Nexus range is the array of USB charging options. There are sockets with two or four USB charging sockets in Type A or type C. There are also sockets with built in WiFi extenders which are an incredibly useful addition to the range.
We stock the Nexus range in 4 popular colour finishes along with the full Grid and Euro Fix options for added flexibility. Nexus is a a high quality and popular choice for house refurbs and electricians, with a great price to match.
Moving up the range we also offer the BG flatplate, which is a screwless plate. Screwless clip on front plates have become increasingly popular in recent years. Apart from looking great, they offer the ability to “first fix” without the plate, before interior décor has been completed. This protects against scratches and paint splatter, as the decorative front element of the socket or switch is only fitted right at the end of the project, by simply clipping on.
Whilst being very flat, we would say these sockets aren’t a true flat plate being 3mm in depth.
For an even flatter profile plate, you would need to move to the screwed variants offered from Hamilton, in their Sheer range, covered later. The BG flat plate range is offered in 3 great finishes, with the Black Nickel being particularly popular, complementing the recent trend for darker interiors.
Both of the BG ranges are a great choice of accessory at a great price, with the only real limitation being choice of finish colour.
Next, Hamilton Litestat, a British manufacturer who offer an unbelievable amount of ranges catering for just about every taste and style. We are amongst the largest stockist of Hamilton ranges in the UK, offering as wide a choice as possible. Even where we don’t stock some of their more specialist ranges, we are happy to quote and source any finish from Hamilton.
Do bear in mind the lead time for some of their more exclusive wiring accessories may be up to 6 weeks due to bespoke manufacture. There are three main plate styles to choose from in their Decorative wiring accessory range.
Firstly, the Hamilton Hartland range of sockets and switches offers an attractive quality steel plate with a 5mm profile and standard screwed base. With 9 elegant finishes available there is almost certainly a finish to match your décor. Please note that we don’t list all colour finishes online, as some are made to order from Hamilton.
The Hartland screwed range is a popular choice for interiors that demand quality, and with enough colour choice for individuality, such as the stunning Antique Brass. We also offer the Hartland with full Grid and Euro Fix options for added flexibility.
For a quality, screwless, slimline socket we highly recommend the new Hamilton G2 range. With an incredible 11 colour finishes available and stylish soft rounded edges, the Hartland G2 range is an affordable alternative to some of our other screwless options.
The affordability comes from having a pressed steel plate, although there is no drop in quality or look, with the clip on front proving extremely popular. The Antra Gray finish with Quartz Grey insert offers a modern on trend finish, pairing well with both lighter and darker decors, and with a subtle matt texture look.
A step up in quality again takes us to the Hartland CFX range, which is a screwless or ‘hidden screw’ plate. Here the difference in weight, feel and quality of the plate is obvious. These switches ooze style and minimalist looks, blending with any décor, and with a staggering 15 finishes.
Again we stock the popular ranges, but can happily guide you through your project, should you wish to explore the 4 shades of bronze offered, for example!
The CFX Colours range is a concealed fixing type, but this time with a slim plastic plate. The gloss bright white and gloss jet black finishes are very popular, whilst the red finish may suit your style, if you’re looking for a quirky or impactful interior.
These super thin stylish plastic plates with soft rounded edges offer an excellent upgrade to the standard white plastic socket, without breaking the bank.
Moving on to the Hamilton Sheer range. These are true flat plate sockets, with the minimalist plate blending seamlessly into modern sleek interiors. At just 1.5mm you can be certain this is the flattest profile on the market. We recommend making sure your walls are perfectly flat, as these sockets will show up any lumps and bumps.
Make no mistake though, this is a quality socket with a less pronounced profile than many of the options above.
Similar to other ranges here, we also offer the Sheer range in a screwless concealed fixing option (CFX). Sheer CFX is a great looking slimline plate which is a firm favourite for architects and interior designers alike. The Sheer CFX screwless range features a clever clip on front plate that allows for decorating to be completed before the plate is fitted. The metal plate itself is a super slim 1.5mm that sits on top of a 3mm gasket giving total profile around 4.5mm.
We stock this range in three finishes: bright chrome with white or black inserts, satin steel with white or black inserts and a paintable matt white with white.
The Hamilton Perception CFX, is a concealed fixing range of designer wiring accessories, inspired by the art deco period. These are designed so you can insert your own wall paper or painted finish, for a completely seamless look to your décor.
Even with this range, you still get to choose the switch and insert colour, to compliment your wall covering perfectly. With a 4mm profile, the Perception range is most closely aligned to being a flatplate.
Lastly, the Cheriton Victorian range, available in 3 finishes and with a standard square edged plate. Also available is the Cheriton Georgian range, with a traditional brass roped edge finish.
That concludes our standard metal decorative plates ranges offered but there is one more range we think deserves attention here.
